A farming valley
Notre-Dame-de-la-Paix sits north of Montebello on Route 323, in a valley the glaciers carved out roughly 20,000 years ago. The village is on the banks of the Petite rivière Rouge. Around it is farmland, and the potato has become the local emblem.
On a farm, plumbing extends beyond the house. An outdoor water line to a barn, a garage or another building has to sit below the frost line. We dig the trench with our own excavator and lay the line ourselves (excavation). Our post on water lines below frost depth explains why depth matters.
The village has water
The municipal water system serves about 389 people according to Quebec's environment ministry, fed by a well. With a little over 700 residents, many homes therefore have their own well, pump and pressure tank (wells and pumps).
Foundations and surface water
When a basement seeps in spring, the cause is usually a French drain that no longer works or was never installed. We dig along the foundation, lay a new drain and backfill (French drains).
Nine lakes in the municipality have official names, including Lac Vert, Lac Chartrand and Lac White Birch.
